Acclaimed Canadian mezzo-soprano Kristin Hoff performs SOLO – a tour-de-force double-bill for solo voice, featuring Judith Weirs King Harald’s Saga and Love Songs by Ana Sokolovi.
Synopsis
A brief 3-act opera, King Harald’s Saga is based on the Norwegian invasion of England in 1066 led by King Harald “Hardradi”, which ended in defeat at the Battle of Stamford Bridge, 19 days before the successful Norman invasion at the Battle of Hastings. In it, the performer portrays 8 roles, including the part of the Norwegian army.
Love Songs makes its festival premiere here at the 2022 Watershed Festival. Created in 2008 by JUNO Award winning composer Ana Sokolovi, one of Canadas leading opera composers, Love Songs explores the many moods of love in all its nuance. The opera is sung in no less than 100 languages – an astonishing feat – and is considered to be a signature role in Hoffs repertoire. (Musique 3 Femmes Production)
