Hedda Gabler has married George Tessman. She should be happy with an ideal house, successful writer husband, and access to the high circles of late 19th-century Norwegian society—isn’t she?
Queen’s Theatre Troupe proudly presents its third production, Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler.
Hedda Gabler, published in 1890, depicts a deeply dissatisfied woman whose marriage demands the perfect housewife; something Hedda is not. Characters from Hedda’s past put pressure on her current situation, and a promising new manuscript from an old lover threatens her husband’s professional career.
As a forerunner of realism in modernist theatre, Hedda Gabler shows how one woman will puppet the lives of others when given the tools of feminine manipulation, high social standing, and access to her father’s prize pistols.
The play is directed by Gracen White, produced by Nathan Zhe, Running from November 4 – November 10 at Theological 102, Queen’s University.
The total running time of Hedda Gabler is approximately 110 minutes with 15 minutes intermission.
